Lazy Daze Turbo Diesel on EBay

Well this is interesting.

2000 Lazy Daze Turbo Diesel Class C 26ft with Only 58 000 Original Miles | eBay

Just something you don't see every day. No idea of the legitimacy of the ad. Just ran across it while searching for the Lazy Daze Japanese branded Bonanza coach the Mothership had at one time exported to Japan. Not sure if they still do.

Oh well. The Turbo Diesel is still a bit of a curiosity.

I'd have to say that the seller sure did a fine job of presenting this LD with quality pictures and information. It also looks like it was properly detailed inside and out. IMO, it's what it takes! It will be interesting to see how the bidding goes and if it meets the reserve. I agree with Kent ... "Just something you don't see every day."

Tried to do a VIN check and was unable to verify the VIN. Not sure what that could mean . . .

I sure miss the old 7.3 Powerstroke. It would be nice to sound like the big diesel pushers and wake the neighbors when I start it up!

Nice ad, yes. When I got to the photo that shows the rear corner I blew it up to see a seam in the end cap that shows re-caulking, maybe a good sign, maybe a bad sign. I would check that carefully in person. I think it rains some in Oregon? What good is the million miles motor in a coach with advanced rot?

If I was back in the area I would certainly go see!!!

And i wiuld like to see the ducted AC mentioned in the ad. Other than that, nice copy writing despite of awful formatting.

Did the Ford put a turbo on that engine for the E series vans? I thought there was not room.

I'm pretty sure that's correct. I got the impression from reading the ad that this is a dealer selling it, not an owner, so perhaps they don't know that it's not a *turbo* diesel.

7.3L Power Stroke Diesel Specs & Info

According to Andy's "Changes by Year", 1999 was the last year that LD used a diesel E-450; this rig is advertised as a 2000. It appears that the chassis/engine may be a 1999 build, and the box registered as a 2000. This "model year" discrepancy is not uncommon.

Looks to me like the weep-holes under the windows have been doing their job, too bad it stained the coach sides the way it did... but then that's the Pacific Northwest for you!

Yes, it is a turbo diesel but it lacks the important intercooler, which is the secret to the power seen in Ford's Power-Stroke pickups.
The diesel has less horsepower than the V10 and cost about $5000 extra. It gain a few MPGs.
With the diesel came a propane-powered generator, since there isn't a gas tank. I believe these LDs did have a slightly bigger propane tank but the hours of generator operation are very limited due to the small supply of propane.
LD only sold a few diesels. I have seen only three, over 21 years.

Personally, I would shy away. It is hard enough find mechanics who work on the V10 E450s , finding an mechanic experienced with an 18 years old, obsolete diesel could be difficult.

I agree with you on this point, Larry.

Several of my co-workers thought I was crazy for not getting a Diesel engine in my rig.

My point was very simple. Diesel engines weigh considerably more and mechanics would be few and far between. There are more Ford mechanics across the country than diesel mechanics.

Include the generator fuel issue and it was a real no brainier for me.

I knew there was something that the diesel engine in the Lazy Daze didn't have that the pickups did!

We're big diesel fans (for pickups), but this was one of the main reasons we decided not to go with the diesel when we bought our LD. I'm not a fan of propane-powered generators. I'm not sure why they didn't put in a diesel generator...too heavy, too big?

I could have sworn that the diesel was still available when we bought our 2004! I remember reading the specs and seeing the price (which, as I recall, was closer to $7,000) and that it came with a propane generator.

I too remember a diesel option when we bought in 2004. I am certain.

There was also a 26 1/2' island bed model. They had a version of about every one of the models too. I remember climbing the ladder on one and there wasn't much more than a foot clearance in the showroom so you really couldn't get up there and inspect Lake Newton.

   I am sorry but I got to say it, that I used to be totally into diesel and still am. However we have many times with our RVs arrived at a campground late and left early. I also remember many times while we have been camped at campgrounds others have also arrived late and left early, the most notable ones are the DIESELS. You always hear them and many times we have been awakened by one or many. I for this reason think twice about driving such a loud vehicle where I could disturb others.

As you know, the "Changes" document was originally put together by a bunch of people, and occasionally an error or inconsistency turns up. I just spent some time reviewing the LD spec sheets that are available, as well as the "Changes" document itself, and pieced together this (slightly updated) info:

1984: GM diesel option, all models
1985-1998: no data
1999: optional Power Stroke diesel V8 on 26.5’ model only
2001: optional 7.3 liter Power Stroke diesel V8 on 23.5’, 26.5’ models
2002: optional 6.0 liter Power Stroke diesel V8 on 26.5’ model only
2003: optional 7.3 liter Power Stroke turbo diesel on 26.5’ model only
2004: optional 6.0 liter Power Stroke turbo diesel V8 on 26.5’ model only
2005: optional 6.0 liter Power Stroke turbo diesel V8 on 26.5’ model only; last year for diesel option

Now in addition to the missing data between 1985 and 1998, pretty obviously some of the later data is wrong. For one thing, I can't believe that the displacement of the diesel changed with every year! And I'm wondering whether the diesel was really offered on 2001-vintage 23.5' "baby Dazes."

Anybody who can help clear up these ambiguities or fill in missing data (e.g., about the GM diesel), please chime in! And yes, I know the "Changes" list is three years out of date. Sorry, folks--I just got lazy. If anybody can summarize the changes for 2014, 2015, and 2016, I'll incorporate them.

I'm now back on the computer, and everything seems normal, but the iPhone 6 Plus would not let me select anything, or backspace, or copy anything. It definitely has a mind of its own at this moment. Tincture of patience is recommended - maybe even until tomorrow morning.
