Installing New Compartment Locks
I recently replaced all the compartment locks on our '02 31' with new locks from: CH751 RV REPLACEMENT LOCKS, CAM LOCKS, CAMLOCKS They were easy to replace and took about 2-3 hours to install 9 locks on 9 compartments. If anyone desires to replace the locks on a 31' LD, please let me know and I can provide you the exact items to order, thus saving you from having to take the existing locks off and measuring them (which I did) before ordering. Total cost was $135. 

I think I read in an earlier discussion about these locks from ILH that you had to leave the key in the lock once it was opened. That is true to a point; however, by turning the cam to the locked position when the compartment door is opened, you can then remove the key and use it elsewhere and simply "unlock" the lock to close the compartment door.

What about the exterior appearance Chris??? Are the replacements now a different color... how does that work??   :-\

Hmmm, I am able to remove my key after opening the bay on all the locks. I hope I installed them properly. They seem to be okay.

--Dave and Kristine parked at the Blue Ox factory in Pender, NE to get a base plate installed on the new Crosstrek in the morning.

EDIT: The locks are a shiny chrome. I think they look nice.

Chris, for me, same as Dave and Christine, the key can be removed when the lock is open. In case your installation is different, the 'notches' on the locks are vertical and 90o to the right. The key is inserted with the 'bill' vertical, turned to the right, then removed through the other notch. The watefill door is the same, but offset 90o to the left, with appropriate key angles.

Chris, another note - the lock 'stop' is installed when the cam is bolted on. Repositioning it 90o might solve the issue.

I checked the locks today while winterizing and I can pull the key out after opening. Guess I didn't do much testing after I installed the new locks. I read someplace one couldn't remove the key when unlocked and took it as gospel.

Hi Chris. The round cylindrical locks I got from Camping World only have one 'slot' at the bottom. The key can only be removed in the locked position. You can of course open the compartment door and lock it open to remove the key. It hasn't been a problem except when I can't find the key, it's sitting in an open lock. I bought 4 packs of 4 all with the same code from CW so I got lots of keys all the same. Chromed but not stainless. I wax them along with the coach and they've held up well. Ron.
