That's what we're talking about. I've got a question for the group: what's the rationale behind either the 27' RB or the 24' FL? Why is there a preference for a center lounge area, as opposed to the 270 degree rear views of the TK & MB? (And while on the subject - of any model - why do people order chairs instead of a 2nd, facing couch?)

Here's a rhetorical question: why is it that not one other RV manufacturer builds this kind of unit? Are there only a few hundred people in the US (per year) interested in this kind of view? You'd think there would be others building similar kinds of RVs, but they've essentially left the entire segment to a small outfit in Pomona.

Simply do.not.get.it.

I have no idea why people choose the models or the layouts or the decor or the colors or the furniture or anything else they choose; their reasons are their own, and if those reasons work for them, and they're happy with two chairs instead of a couch, or smaller or differently-located windows, or a "modern" paint scheme, their choices don't really matter to anyone else. Others' priorities, tastes, lifestyles, rig usage, and every other aspect/issue involved in their selection process may be - and probably are - very different from yours or mine; does it matter?  I'm pretty sure that every LD owner could list the specific reasons why s/he selected the model s/he did and elaborate on the upsides and downsides of said choices, and some may choose to share their reasons for making the buying decisions they did.

Good thing that we have choices, right?  The YMMV thing is in "max play" on this one!  Coffee, anyone!?  ;)

Abso-blooming-lutely - it is just each person's particular tastes/needs/requirements/feelings at a given time in history.

I think it matters whether the occupant(s) comprise a single person, a couple, or a family as to "best" floorplan, plus whatever hours each person keeps/spreading-out room/privacy/personal space is required.  Plus there are frequently pets' needs/space to consider.

My personal experience?  We've had ten years in a TK and seven more in an RB, with eight intervening years in a 40-foot diesel pusher.  Each was satisfactory at the time for the use we put it to.  So even personal preferences can change with time and use.

For personal comfort and space - hands down - it was the 40-foot diesel pusher.  But the downsides . . . oh, my!

For practicality when we were both working, it was definitely the TK that we could park on the street near our townhouse, and load and go in an evening, and drive until midnight, getting out of town when most everyone else was asleep, and not clogging up the streets and highways.  No need for a toad as we were flitting about from place to place frequently enough to resupply and sightsee as needed.

For part-time use now, with advanced age and physical limitations, the RB suits us just fine.

As for chairs instead of two sofas . . . we had the two sofas in the TK.  I always wished for chairs to sit in because they are more comfortable *for me*.  So when it came time to locate a 27-foot Lazy Daze, it was the sofa/chairs floorplan that was on my radar.  Two sofas, to me, indicated that I might want to turn it into a king-sized bed, not something that I felt we were likely to want to do.  And I wanted the chairs for sitting.  I seem to use a sofa only for napping.

The rear kitchen did not appeal because of the extreme shortage of counter space for this from-scratch cook.

The mid-bath model gave me the willies!  Way too tight.  Even a TK has a more open feel to me.  Again, personal preference in the feel of the rig.

The back windows (the same as in our TK) in an MB are nice, but with our RB, we have a lot more light in the front of the coach, which takes away the "closed-in" feeling for me.  The back window in the RB is nearly full sized and lets in a lot of light in the back part of the coach.  All in all, the whole feeling is more comfortable - again - *for me*.

All that said, at this point in my life - which is different from any of the above scenarios - I would prefer to have a 31-foot twin bed model.

So - it is impossible to calculate "best" because there are so many factors to consider.

I love my MidBath and it suits how we have been doing RVing well.  But now our daughter joins us less and less so it is just the wife and I RV mostly alone (no roomers on board).  Though we often meet with friends at campgrounds and on those occasions the party often moves to the kitchen.  If I were to get another LD I would look very closely at the rear bath for the extra room.  If I was RVing alone I would love a any of the LD with chairs instead of the extra bunk.  So much easier to set up a place for the computer.  The chairs are much more comfortable than the pull out couch/bed for me.  I am short and need extra cushions when setting in the rear area with company.  It is not a big deal just one of the things you learn living with a rv for a long time.

I know some RV in Europe have a rear configuration similar a rear lounge and MB.  The lounge/bedroom area was a big reason we went with the MB.  I have no clue why other manufactures insist on putting a bedroom in back that serves no other purpose.

De Ja Vu,

In our previous lives as RVer's we had a nice 27' Prowler TT with two doors, one aft one forward. We loved it. The rear had a dedicated queen bed. A bit small for my 6' 1" frame, but very nice.

Thank goodness I discovered Lazy Daze and my DW decided we should move up to a motorhome rather than another TT, otherwise I would probably be towing another Prowler behind me.

I like the idea of a rear lounge, but I love the extra space the RB provides in the bathroom/dressing room. Yeah! Dressing room, can you believe it?  Shower, shave and dress in the same space without bumping into a wall. Very nice.

We have the double couch in our RB that we set up with memory foam pads on each couch. Throw a comfy blanket on top and some extra pillows and not only are you ready to kick back on a very comfortable couch, but it's pre made for evening slumber. Just the thought of it makes me want to hit the road.

That's us in a nut shell. Now I think I'll just sit back and have a cup of Joe. 🙀

I didn't order our MB LD, we bought it used. It had the barrel chair option. We rebuilt the rear end and debated replacing the chairs/cabinet with a second twin. Decided to pull the cabinet out (very difficult) a day remove a chair. Because I don't like to lounge on the bed/couch and the barrel chairs are comfortable to my back.  That's just a personal anecdote.

For me, it's all about the dog crates, solo travel & habits. (and the list of "next" rig desires I built over 10 years in a 21ft SOB)

24FL here. Both chairs removed. XL dogcrate in forward position, small crate, then Stressless Recliner for me.

24ft because I'm not taking trees out to safely get a 27RB to the house.

I agree with those who make note of the openness of the RB.  We do use the dinette a lot, and the only thing that gripes me about that floor plan is the wheel hump under the dinette table.  Do any of you other RB aficionados find that awkward, as well?

Ray,

Personally, I feel very comfortable with the wheel "hump" below the dinette. There is plenty of storage space under the seats for all sorts of things. Including the huge variety of foot ware that comes with a family of three.

The "humps" position, for me anyway, is preferred there rather than under the commode.

In our other RV's that's exactly where it resided. Always gave me the feeling of being on a real throne. 👑

Just sayin'

I suppose Ken has a point, particularly in regards to 4-year old grand child.  But what about lost legroom under table with more than 2 adults?  Sit a bit sideways if on the inside?  We play cards a lot.
