Frustrated by the Search
I'm wondering if it's time to move on and start searching for some other RV, finding a good used Lazy Daze feels like trying to find a needle in a haystack. After our experience with the 1992 we paid to inspect and the 2000 that got sold out from under us, I decided to hold out for a late 90s to 2000 model. It has to be a mid bath, with 2 couches in the back and the over cab bed, of course everything that comes up for sale in the last few months doesn't meet those specs. Too old, lots of rear bath models etc and finally when one meeting all my needs comes up the asking price is crazy. Apparently lazy daze are $160,000 new!

Wow! $160,00 for a new LD. Not sure where you got that number. (Oh, I see from the ad maybe that was a typo in the ad).

My 2015 27' RB (which we absolutely love) was $92,500 without the few extras we got (extra solar panel, wood dash, leather seats in cab, outdoor shower, power cut off for batteries, back up camera, electric heated mirrors...about $4,000) still under $100,000 before taxes.

A new 27' goes for a bit more but not $60,000. You might want to check their web site or give them a call.

RB models are very spacious and the bathroom is to die for, well maybe not die for, but very roomy. Still a ton of Windows and very comfortable.

Best of luck with your search. Or order new and smell the roses.

Your criteria is very specific. There are some out there, but still, at that age there will be many that are not in good condition.

To us cosseted here in our bubble of LD love, it is shocking that there are owners who don't take care of their rigs, but realistically, LD owners probably line up with other RV owners- a few conscientious ones (us here), many average well intentioned, and a few who for a variety of reasons let their rig run down.

Have you looked at other brands in your price range? They may be newer due to their different depreciation cycle. I don't know your budget, but comparing brands in the price range of  a 16-20 year old LD would be enlightening.

When we were last looking we got into a low end classC that we could buy new for $69K. It was amazingly sad. So poorly built it rattled and shook to beat the band. Decor was already showing wear. It did have the latest fancy features though. We ran away.

In our old rig we are happy, and when we see it after returning from a walk we get a nice thrill with it. People always compliment us on its appearance. It goes down the (smooth) roads quietly. But we found it when we weren't looking for it. Lucky.

Do your research on other brands, keep looking for a quality LD, and let your analysis take you to your goal. Just my advice. TIOLI

$160,000? That number in the ad for the 1997 is either a flat-out scam or somebody's very imperfect memory kicking in!  The price of a 1998 26.5' (didn't find a 1997 price list, but I doubt there's much, if any, difference) was $53,450.00 ($3500 deposit).

Not saying that the rig in the ad is not worth checking out, but that kind of blatant misrepresentation is a red flag to me. YMMV, of course.

Exactly, this guy's asking price should have a 1 at the front not a 2. I can wait around and watch for him to lower the price but based on the ad this guy doesn't live on planet reality so getting straight info is unlikely. Sadly I can't swing brand new right now, though I may consider a newer (07 or later) rig if I finance part of it. We went to the RV show last weekend and I hated everything, unfortunately it made my hubby want a class A or toy hauler, yuck.

For what it's worth, I saw this ad in CL this morning.  Good luck in your search.

Lazy Daze's prices are on their website.
http://www.lazydaze.com/FEATURES.PDF
Prices range from $91,000 to $105,000, nowhere near $160,000.

LDs are produced in very limited quantities, compared to the big guys, so few used units are available..
In your age and price range, many LDs have already been junked, badly damage. or worn out
As mentioned, when taken care of, a LD can last for decades, but it not, you can destroy one in 15-20 years.
Many of the 'good' ones are sold without ever being advertised.
For a limited budget, I would look at every available RV, in your price range, regardless of brand, and pick the one the best condition that fits your needs. Resist buying a high mileage rig unless you are mechanically incline or plan on just using it locally, such as a beach rig, commonly seen here in SoCal.
Consider professional inspection on any rig you are considering purchasing.

I've been following LD for several years and know the price, I was just showing how out of touch this seller is. I contacted the seller of the '91 in Ventura when he listed it but I am hesitant about a few things, first there must have been a chassis design change between 91 and 92 cause the 92 has a more modern cab. And all the early 90s models are on the 350 chassis and I prefer a 450 chassis cause my husband wants to tow his race car occasionally. Then the $13k asking price for a 91 is again a bit high, which explains why it hasn't sold yet. It should be closer to $10k and my hubby thinks even lower (cause he doesn't care if it's a lazy daze or sob, to him they're all the same).

Ask your husband if he thinks all race cars are the same.   :o

Race cars normally are transported on trailers.
Depending on the weight of the race car, the type and size of the trailer and how much stuff goes along with the race car (tools, parts, etc.), the weight could easily exceed the bumper's 4000-lb rating and possibly the CGVW of the chassis.
Find out how much weight is involved. You may need a bigger size RV.
A diesel pickup and a toy-box trailer could be a better choice.
How serious is he about racing?

If the weight is OK, then you need a 1996 or later 26.5' LD. This was the year the  E350 Super Duty was introduced, known the next year as the E450.
1996 was the last year for the 460 V8, an old-school engine that does have an abundance of aftermarket parts, if your are interested in more power...at a cost.
The first three years of the V10 (97, 98, 99), the engines only produced 265-HP, compared to 305-HP in the 2000 and later engines.
If you tow much weight, the higher horsepower is nice.

It's a miata on a small open trailer so pretty light and he doesn't carry much crap cause his buddies are all there at the track too. It's about 3300lbs all in. He has a truck to tow with anyway, this would be once in awhile the whole family will go with him. But yeah we have a lot of requirements to meet. Did I mention the disabled daughter in a wheelchair, makes traveling to look at rigs hard. Our lives are complicated :(
