Thanksgiving
Hello all.  Bud & Barbara here.

As some of you know, we're new to full-timing and have been at it just since May of this year.

Both of our families are in Washington and Ohio, and we're in central New Mexico gradually working our way south.

That being said, this will be our first time spending Thanksgiving "alone", without close family members getting together.  We were wondering if there are any of you in the same situation, here in New Mexico, that might want to get together for Thanksgiving Dinner somewhere so that it might feel just a bit more festive.  The area that we'll be in around T-Day is Elephant Butte/T or C/Las Cruces/Alamogordo, etc.

Looking forward to hearing from any of you that may be wishing for the same holiday camaraderie as we are.

Bud, in New Mexico

Hi Bud & Barbara,

Your invitation is kind and generous.
And those who are near you would do well to visit. A festive spread makes for a wonderful gathering.

Something very special happened when I joined this forum that I never expected. That is the inclusion into a family I never thought I'd have.

Your offer is one reason why this group does so well. Perhaps it is the RVer's lifestyle that brings us together and makes many of us feel like family. It's a curious phenomenon. Makes me want to keep coming back for more.

I will be up here in Southern California at that time but my heart will be with you and, hopefully, all the other LDer's who join you for the Festival Of Foods.

Enjoy your travels and remember don't eat Turkey and drive-There outta be a law.

We do a RVing Thanksgiving in South Carolina with my sister who lives in FL.  I live in VA near Washington DC so SC makes a nice half way point.  Last year due to weather everyone ate inside our mid-bath.  This year we will be at Huntington Beach SP and hoping for better weather.
By the way, it was the rain earlier in the month that was the problem.  Bad, BAD, BAD mosquitos, but still had lots of fun.  This year we will be closer to the ocean and the sea breeze.

If you are an Escapee, you won't be too far from the Escapees' Co-op park in Lakewood, NM.  It's a very friendly park, and I'm sure they'll have a big spread for Thanksgiving.

There's also the Escapees' Rainbow park in Deming, NM.  You don't have to be an Escapee to stay at this park, but I'm not sure what they might have going for Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.  No, we're not Escapee Members at this time but have met several who are so we'll see where that may lead.  Guess I was thinking that LDO Forum members were "kind of" the same without having to be actual signed and paid members and thought that perhaps.... hoping actually..... that we could hook up with other LD owners who were in the same situation as us.  Perhaps we're just in the wrong part of the country right now.  :-)

So far in our 4+ months of traveling around NM we've seen 2 other LDs and I was fortunate to meet one of them, a single lady, who camped very near to us up at Cochiti Lake.  UNFORTUNATELY..... my wife was away seeing family so spending any real time with the other LD owner probably wouldn't have been a comfortable situation for either of us.  Barbara and I  thought for sure that by now we would have met and fellowshipped with a few more LD owners than we have.  Again, may just be this part of the country.

Okay... I'm rambling now.  Thanks again for the replies and hope you all are having a safe and enjoyable week!

Bud, it's a good thought. We would be there, except we are in FL at that time.

Hi Bud,

I actually live in Las Cruces, NM and have a 1998 Lazy Dazy 26.5 mid-bath.  Actually, it's in storage at the moment because I decided to "give some attention" to my town-home.  However, I "do" plan to spend late autumn/winter in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.

Last summer I worked at camp hosting at two Oregon State Parks.

Last Thanksgiving two of my Canadian friends (that I met at the RV park in Puerto Penasco) came to my house for "American Thanksgiving.  They weren't Elk's members, but I was allowed to "sign them in" for their RV near my house at $10.00/night.  In short, I would love to meet you and your wife and you both are "most welcome" to experience Thanksgiving at "Casa de Cheryl."

I'm "hoping" that my Canadian friends will come again this Thanksgiving, (and it seems a "go") but regardless "Mi Casa, Su Casa."  Let me know if you're in the area...

Bud,
In 2013, myself and five others had Thanksgiving dinner together in Elephant Butte. There usually are some LDers camped during the fall and winter in New Mexico; so, you may yet see them. I should be back out there in early January. If you're still there, it would be great to meet-up.

Hello Cheryl!  Thank you for the very generous offer!  We will certainly keep you in mind and will give you plenty of advance notice if it looks like we're going to be in the Las Cruces area around then.  So nice of you to invite us into your home.

Mexico, huh?  Barbara and I have both discussed the pros and cons of venturing down that way.  It'd be interesting to get a first-hand report on that.  Do you happen to Blog on your adventures?  If so, we'd love to read them.

Thanks again and we'll certainly keep in touch!

Hello David!   So great to hear from you.

We're in Elephant Butte as I write.  Will be heading back up north on the 12th to Cochiti Lake so that we can drive around and check out the fall colors, probably venturing a day trip up into Eagle Nest area.  After then, we'll head back to Elephant Butte or perhaps Caballo.  Don't have to decide this far in advance!  :-)

I am pretty sure we'll be somewhere in New Mexico in January unless it gets too cold for these old bones.  If so, we'll be over in AZ.  Really would like to meet you.

Wondering if "Casa de Cheryl" offer still stands for Thanksgiving?  We will be near Alamogardo and Las Cruces is only about an hour away.  Any other LD owners in the area for Thanksgiving?
