RV Service Eastern Pennsylvania
I want to put a plug in for Sycamore Hill RV in Lebanon PA (Jim Landvater). After a careful and time consuming search,  we found Jim when our fridge died on our trip out East.  Jim immediately displayed his knowledge and ability to handle the replacement, a big job in anyone's book. He ordered an exact replacement of our Dometic 2662 2 way fridge and installed it today. We paid full retail for the unit ($1,763.56) plus $120 labor. Camping world showed a lower price but I don't trust their Harrisburg location with 2.3 stars on google. Posts found on this board helped us survive this!! We bought a 12 volt Coleman cooler at WM ($97) to keep a few things cool, but lost everything in the freezer and fridge. Our's was the original unit ('99). The amonia leaked out and we didn't realize what happened until it was too late. We are very thankful we didn't have a fire.

Todd, thanks for the insight.  As a family who travels in the Hershey area at times, it's good for us to learn of reputable repair shop nearby if the need arises.

I, too, appreciate info about positive interactions with with repair & service providers.  Just a thought to the moderators--is that a possible category, to save searching through the archives for all references to such?  'Twould be quite helpful to those of us with marginal technoliteracy... :)

Thx--

Lynne, others have suggested adding an album or some place to record recommended  “Repair, Maintenance and Service Facilities”. I have asked Steve for his recommendation on how to do this.

Thx, Chris.

As has been said other places, & most recently on Traxless/Ed's thread, the work you & others have put into starting/maintaining/migrating from Yahoo/maintaining this community is a great gift to those of us less skilled.  I heard an interview with Jimmy Wales (co-founder of Wikipedia) on NPR last week as I flew south on I-25 from Ladeze to Denver on the way back to Missouri.  He talked about the community of contributors, their process of self-policing the information/effort to have information as accurate as possible, & overall commitment to being "nice" (and contrasted it to the ugliness too often seen on various other social media sites/newspaper comment boards/etc.)--I immediately thought of this forum & it's previous incarnation on Yahoo, & all of you who have made it what it is...so this is my "THX" added to those others.

Thanks for the kind words, Lynne. We moderators enjoy what we are doing. You members, by being civil, helpful and courteous make it easy for us.
Some time when you are passing through Denver, give a heads up and perhaps we can meet for a chat.

There aren't too many places you can go where you just wanna sit down and chat with everyone you meet. This forum could be the GOLD STANDARD for civility.

Todd,

I'm just curious about your fridge. Was its demise a simple matter of age that took it out or could the service technicians determine the root cause.

Seems as though your fridge lived a long and healthy life all-in-all what ever the cause. May we all have such long lived LD appliances.

The techician determined that the amonia leaked out (It wasn't as obvious as you might think). Once he pointed it out, I could see a few yellow drops coming from behind a tin plate that covers that area. The fridge never gave us a moment of trouble. It just died. In hindsight, we recall a terrible smell during our journey, right before the failure.. We just thought it came from outside but it surely was the moment of failure when the amonia leaked out.

Oh my...

...another reason to budget for future failures. Had a 3-Way fridge go out in our TT over 20 years ago just before a trip. Cost $2,000.00 back then (maybe it was $1,200.00 it was a long time ago). Probably got a bit skunked by the RV center at the time, but what did I know. Never knew what hit me, but my wallet sure did. Ouch!

Now I sock away $12.50 a month for that unhappy day. Always planning ahead for those darn surprises. At least your good for another 15 years.  ;D

I would; say 120 is a very reasonable labor charge..
