Any other movie will work as well.Select War and Peace.Select $3.99 rent. Don't worry, you will not be charged at this point. Then select Rent HD Movie. You *might* have to tap this button twice. If you do not have enough free space to download this huge file you will get a message saying "Cannot download. Not enough available storage..."From this screen, select SettingsGo back to General, Storage and iCloud Usage. Look at Available storage and you will likely see a nice increase.Repeat this procedure three times to maximize the amount of additional storage you free up.No idea why it works but it does. 3 Likes

The key in the instructions was to tap "rent the movie" twice. I had only done it once. Storage went from 1.2 to 3.3. 2nd try got me to 3.4. 3rd try stayed at 3.4 so I didn't push my luck. Maybe later. Thanks for the tip! It will be interesting to see if it stays there.Chris
Re: iPhone iPad storage Reply #5 – September 05, 2016, 05:08:42 pm Chris,I've read these instructions before and would assume that one would need a credit card linked to the iTunes account in order to start the rental process. Is this correct?Kent

Re: iPhone iPad storage Reply #9 – September 05, 2016, 07:13:22 pm Ed, Chris,I made an attempt to upgrade my iTunes app and I was prompted to update to 9.3 etc...I did update and gained an extra gig of memory. Wow! Thanks apple. Of course they tried their very best to get me "Up In The Clouds". Not right now thank you very much.Next thing to do is attempt a movie rental. This little phone may soon be swimming in memory. Kent

Re: iPhone iPad storage Reply #12 – September 06, 2016, 07:57:07 pm Epilogue squared: I think I found where they discovered space on the ol mini. The database for the RM RV GPS app is missing. Coincidence? Perhaps.Bummer. It was still somewhat useable but now it won't download the database.

I'm unfamiliar with the app in question. Was it a paid app? Can you reload it like I did with Google Earth? Two steps forward...one step back. Just isn't fair.Kent
Re: iPhone iPad storage Reply #14 – September 07, 2016, 01:35:53 pm Phone and tablet makers should have stopped selling 16 GB devices years ago. That's simply not enough storage for today's app-loving users and today's memory-hungry apps. I recommend not less than 32 GB (which I believe is going to be Apple's minimum hardware level in the future).Personally, I've learned to max out memory and storage when I buy a new device, especially with phones and tablets that can't have their storage upgraded. I know my habits, and I know that if a phone or tablet has plenty of storage, I'll keep it longer and be happier when using it. My current iPhone and iPads, which are more than two years old, all have 128 GB, of which I've used about 100. They happily run anything I throw at them, with no need for memory-saving tricks.Of course not everyone needs as much storage as I do. But my advice when buying a new tablet or phone is to get at least twice as much storage as you think you need. Trust me, you'll use it sooner than you think. :-) 2 Likes

Company secret, I suppose.EdHi Ed,My understanding is Apple knows what material on your iDevice was purchased via iTunes or the App store, and therefore, can offload that material to free up space. You can always re-download it later if/as needed. So it isn't magic. But that makes sense to me. This could be songs, apps, other movies, etc. Anyways, that's how I understand it.Hope you and Carol are doing well. We're getting closer to taking your previous rig back on the road. Probably in February! We hope for a 3-month adventure to warmer places. Woohoo.Steve & Carol Crisp
