Suggestion for the LD Forum Structure August 28, 2016, 09:10:16 pm I've notice that the Foretravel Forum has something like "Stickies" at the top of some of their Forums. In recent weeks, there have been a good number of very thoughtful and complete replies to often asked questions. I'd like to suggest that the Moderators consider that structure for our Forum. In addition, I'd suggest that Forum Members could or would suggest to the Moderators a particular Post for further consideration as a "Sticky." Just an idea for consideration.

Re: Suggestion for the LD Forum Structure Reply #2 – August 29, 2016, 12:46:02 am I peruse several forums with "stickies", and I am not so enthused about them. Since we now have the ability to bookmark a thread, we can create our own personal set of high interest threads. Most of the stickies on the forums I use are just irrelevant clutter to me that were at one time of interest to a few active members. Sometimes these occupy an entire screen of real estate I have to scroll through to get to new topics. Bookmarking topics is a better way IMO. 1 Likes

Re: Suggestion for the LD Forum Structure Reply #4 – August 29, 2016, 09:39:21 am Quote from: Michelle C - August 29, 2016, 07:07:09 amChris - here on LDO I believe it's "Pin" at the bottom left of a topic. If there is a particularly useful reference topic, a moderator can "Pin" the topic, which "stickies" it to the top of a board (only moderators can pin/unpin). Now - a caveat. You don't want too many pins/stickies because being at the top of a board they force the active topics lower in the list. Too many pinned topics and folks will have to scroll down too far to get to the current content. So be judicious in what you pin, (and you can "unpin" as a topic becomes outdated). These should be topics with relatively membership-wide relevance. Now, with that said, I believe Steve had mentioned eventually creating a wiki here on LDO, which is really the best way to store reference/FAQ information (and have members themselves help with the content). Thanks, Michelle. Now that I understand this better, I think letting members bookmark what's important to them is the best route to take. However, if anyone finds something that s/he feels should be called to folks' attention, please let me know and I will give pinning the topic consideration. Personally, I have found bookmarking a huge organizational plus for the information from this forum I want to cache. And later, if the bookmark is no longer relevant, it's easy to delete.Chris 3 Likes
Re: Suggestion for the LD Forum Structure Reply #5 – August 29, 2016, 10:03:03 pm My two cents worth. If it's really a timeless topic, it should be edited for clarity and posted on The Companion. If you have what you think is a timeless topic send it to me for posting on The Companion. There is an effort there to classify things and not mix tires with coffee makers, etc. 2 Likes
