Getting close to pulling the trigger
My wife and I are close to pulling the trigger on a new Lazy Daze.  We like the 27 foot length but are still vascillating on the mid bath vs. rear bath.  We are leaning toward the mid bath so we can be in different parts of the coach doing different things (like reading and sleeping).

Can any of you experienced owners share with us why you bought your configuration, why you like it, and perhaps why you might make a different choice if you had to make the decision again?  I'd rather be a vicarious learner and not get smarter by making an expensive mistake.

A second request concerns buying a floor model at Lazy Daze.  Have any of you done that?  Was the coach clean and in like-new condition when you received it, in spite of being walked in and sat in by prospective buyers?  Was it worth the shorter wait and about 2% discount vs. ordering a new one?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Harold, welcome!
I assume you already searched for this oft discussed topic, but perhaps our LD lexicon is a bit cryptic. There are a lot of good threads like these I found searching for "layout".

The old stuff is still valid, since LD layouts and configurations don't change. Like ever. That's a quirky benefit.

Mine is an MB. We like separate quarters for sleeping since we have different rise and shine times. The MB allows us to close off one end from the other. Also when on an extended trip, one may be quarantined with a cold.  We love the rear lounge windows.

So far we would not consider another layout.

A floor model LD? Now I am curious! I didn't know there was such a thing- perhaps an order that fell through? Did you see one at the Mothership? I thought all their units were committed for before they even ordered the chassis from Ford. Tell us more about this route!

Far as I know, floor models are almost all pre-purchased models waiting for pickup. We have an '04 FL, which is a shorter version of the rear bath. For a couple not fulltiming it works well. Most days we are in the rig morning and evening only, so being together is not an issue. You need to consider all the ways YOU intend to use the rig, how much storage you need, and whether you will have overnight visitors. Call the factory before you visit to see which models are available to inspect.

Harold,

In regards to the Floor Model. There is no discount on floor models. They are pristine and are spoken for (not prebuilt & purchased waiting for pickup).

When we laid down our deposit September of 2014, I questioned Todd about purchasing the floor model. I was told the two units that were currently on display were spoken for (kind of like a lottery) and would not be released until the next Ford chassis was made available and a new floor model was built and ready for display.

I am glad there were two floor models to roam around in prior to our decision to purchase because we changed our minds that very day.

I had wanted the 27' MB with the beautiful rear lounge. We were more comfortable in the 27' RB.

Open and spacious. We convert the two front couches into seperates beds. When I wake before my DW,  I button up the center roof vent to prevent the sun from shining in her face. I quietly do my thing and with coffee in hand a step outside to enjoy the morning breeze.

Other choice? Perhaps the IB but it won't fit in my driveway, I loose CCC and I can't take it to the parking lot at Glacier Point above Yosemite Valley.

Check out some of the previous posts if you can. We ALL love our LD's so there is plenty to talk about.

Good luck in your search. A word of caution. Buying new...sit in a few and take it all in. Best decision I ever made.

If it were just the two of us I might be tempted to get a rear bath.  But we almost always camp where our grown daughter, or my brother his young son can join us.
The MidBath allows separation and the view from the three Windows can cause people to say "WOW!!!"
When it is just the two of us, or when I am solo, I find that I spend a lot of time in the kitchen.  The wife and I enjoy cooking so or rig is often the gathering place for family/friend group camping. The openness of the. RearBath would be nice then.

We have a 2011 MB Floor Model we picked up in 2012.  Yes, there IS a discount.  Ours had 78 miles on the odometer when we picked it up.  Everything in it was like new.  The wear and tear is still not noticeable after 50,000 miles.  There is a down side to this.  Ours has a sat. dish on the roof, an option that I would not have ordered.  So now, it is an expensive decoration.

We choose the floor model mostly because of timing.  We were at the Mothership in June, ready to place our order.  Todd estimated that it would be ready for pick up in January.  I told Todd we would order it later in the year, because I was not about to drive a new rig cross country to Western PA. in January.  A rookie driver, a new rig, and winter weather in the mountains was not something I wanted to tackle.  Todd then replied that the MB in the show room was available immediately, as soon as we could process the paper work.  It was the floor plan, color, and just about everything we wanted (except the sat. dish), so we went with the floor model.  We drove it home starting on August 1.  A wonderful trip.

One other point.  This fits in with the buyer beware process.  We have found some of the cushions marked on the white tag that must not be removed under pain of death, the word "Demo".  We wonder if these cushions barely passed "inspection".  We have no issues with them, but we wonder nevertheless.

We chose the mid-bath because we knew we would be spending a lot of time in the lounge area, so we wanted a spacious area with great views outside those LD windows.  We anticipated spending time in National Parks and the views out the back windows are tremendous.  Since space is limited, we didn't feel the need for a larger BR area.  However, you need to choose your floor plan based on what is best for you.  The points made by others about separating the front from the rear via the BR door or curtain are on target.  Sometimes when DW and I are doing quiet things, it's hard to believe someone else is in the RV.  We would choose the Mid Bath again, but it would be ordered just the way we want it.

" Yes, there IS a discount."

Well wadda know? When I asked about floor model discounts, Todd told me there were none.  That ol' boy done fabricated a tale on me. Silly man doesn't he know? Tricks are for kids.

No matter. The floor models were already snatched up anyway. Nice that you could get yours so quickly, though. Well done.

Kent, our purchase was then 2012.  Maybe they don't do the discounts now.  Or maybe the rigs need to be a model year old to get the discounts.

Phew! Thanks, Bob.

I feel better now...

Todd is a wonderful guy. Vince and Todd have helped me out in a number of ways.

His reputation has thusly been restored.

The discounts used to be the last years price as the price goes up every year. And they didn't sell them until they had a new years model ready. However sales have picked up so much I doubt they really have time to build a floor model.

Here's how it went for us. We were flying out from the Midwest to look and, if duly impressed, order an LD. We were convinced that no other option would be right for us. Even with Winnebago and Born Free a couple hours away , I spent enough time on the old Yahoo site to know what we wanted.

Or did we. I poured over the pages (brochures snail mailed in those days, ha!). Well, I had to wipe the drool off to see the pages, Lol!! But after looking and looking at all the options I was certain that the RB with all that open space was what we would want.

Well, we arrived at the factory in the morning and it was super low key, no pressure at all. Steve wasn't there that day and Ed was busy so didn't get involved with us til the end with Vince acting as our sales associate ( Ed: NO, you can't have an extra outlet there) (why the hell do you want an electric step?!?! It's just another thing to break!!) (The nasty, withering look when I asked if bilstein's were recommended how come they weren't standard?).

Back then they still had the 26' island bed model. This, there were LOTS of rigs to look over. We spent all day there. We quickly threw out the 30' as we just didn't want to go that big. The 24' followed as too small.nthe island bed went next as too small for such a configuration.

Funny, the more we sat in, pretended to live in and mull the three remaining options the more we gravitated to the MB or the RK for the very reason some have mentioned; you just can't beat getting up and closing off half the rig to let your partner sleep while you fire up the coffee and stare out at the wonders outside your massive LD Windows. We threw out the RB when I had been sure it would be what we bought. The funny thing is we fell in love with the RK and we had hardly looked at the pictures and considered it before.

You must go to the Mothership and spend the day there. Live in them, experience them, drink them in. The right choice will make itself apparent to you.

Happy shopping!!!!

Harold,
I think as others have stated that going to the factory and just hanging out looking at the floor models that they have might help you.  (depending of course on what they have available).  And really thinking about how you would use your RV.

We recently bought a new Mid-bath, and love the layout (and of course quality).  Our situation is different than most on this forum, as we are a family of four (two young kids) who are planning on going full time for a couple of years.  We chose the 27' length basically because it wasn't too big to go into national and state parks, but still big enough to hold our family.  Originally I liked the Rear Kitchen layout, keeping the kitchen and dinning area completely separate, and keeping the family together during our driving time.    But as I started thinking about the day to day living, I realized that having separate bedrooms for the kids -vs- hubby and I (especially since we would be full timing) was a must!  When I went to the factory in Sept of 2014, I was hoping that they would have a mid bath to look at, and fortunately they did.  Todd was busy when I first got there, and as luck would have it, Steve just happened to be walking by when I was looking for someone to ask questions to.  (I had no idea who he or Todd or anyone else was).  We ended up sitting in the back part of the Mid bath for about four hours, just talking.  Steve let me know which options he thought would be a waste (just one more thing to go wrong), but also suggested that we add a table to the back, so my hubby could use it as his office as the rest of us had the dinning area for food and homeschooling.  I didn't even know that the table was an option.  After that trip, and having sat in the RV for hours, I knew that was the layout for us.  We just picked up our RV three months ago, and so far have been pleased WAY more than we thought.  Our only thing that we would have done different, was to add a couple more seat belts - Todd called us to ask, but at the time, we couldn't think why we might need more.  As far as waiting for the "perfect" rig or getting a floor model, we thought about all the options.....for us we weren't in a rush and felt that if we were going to spend $100K+ on a new RV, that we would get exactly what we wanted.  I am hoping to have this thing for 20-30 years.  ;-)

Kent,
Never fear, Todd is one of the good guys, I'm sure of it.  When we picked up our LD this past May, Todd had to put up with showing our entire family (two adults, two kids - ages 10 and 6) how to do everything.  He very patiently answered all of my oldest son's questions, as well, he sometimes had to show my hubby how to do something, then immediately after show me the same exact thing (because I was dealing with one of my kids).  Plus answer a few questions more than once.  He was very patient and kind, and took the time to make sure we were all settled.  I don't let my kids run wild, but I do let them be kids.

As far as the discussion to wether they have floor models and are discounted etc etc...    I will share our experience.......      When  we were looking at buying our LD we had our name on a wait list to order (this was Jan/Feb 2015), and considered the possibility of getting one slightly quicker.  There were two other options for buying new.  One option was to buy one of the two coaches that were the floor models.  Another option was to put our name on another list, of people that were interested in being contacted if someone was not able to go through with the purchase of their coach that they originally ordered.  When my husband asked if there was a discount on the floor models, Todd just laughed.  I think the 'discount' is that the price on the coach would be the price of the year before, therefore lower than if you ordered the current year.  There was one that someone had ordered and couldn't follow through on, Todd let us know about that, but I think it was a different floor model than what we wanted.  Essentially, since we were spending the money, and were not in a rush, we waited and got exactly what we wanted.

Bob,
If it helps to ease your mind.....  All of our cushions had our last name printed on the white tag.  It might be their policy to do that for all of the rigs, and therefore just put "demo" for their demo rigs?  Just a possibility.  :-)

Rebecca,

Everyone at the Mothership has always been FANTASTIC . No complaints from this old goat.

I agree, Todd is as easy going as they come. I truly enjoy my visits at the factory. I have taken family members and friends there just to kick back and show off my great wisdom in choosing Lazy Daze. The "no pressure zone" at LD is so refreshing.

Rebecca, we must have just missed each other at the factory. My DW and I were there Sep. 4, 2014. One day later I was sending in our order. Picked up our RB Oct. 27, 2015. Just in time to decorate it for Halloween.

Kinda breaks my heart to hear that some buyers have to back out of their purchase.

If I had known about Lazy Daze back in the day, I may have been driving this coach for the past 30 years. Still takes a nice picture...

Kent,

I was there a couple weeks after you....the 17th, I think.  We waited to place our order, as we wanted to take delivery in the spring of 2016.  And all worked out exactly as we hoped.  😀

I owned a 1992 midbath for 16 years and loved it. My late husband and I traveled a lot with my best friend and the midbath is perfect for that. I also took adult sons out it it worked great. The flexibility of using the back as two twins or a king bed  adds flexibility as well.

When my new husband felt a 24 year old rig with 140,000 miles was not up to long distance travel we started looking for a newer LD. We considered all the floor plans because we rarely travel with anyone. After much consideration and evaluating all of the plans we circled around to the midbath for all the reasons others have mentioned. I will add the if you really look at the floor plans you will see that the midbath also has the a lot of storage inside and out.

We found a 2004 with 55,000 miles and we're happy.
