It was B - I - G and pretty intimidating in size. Not sure why it felt so large just sitting there. Somehow our 1985 TK didn't seem to be that large, although it probably was. Maybe it is the lack of the large windows. I doubt I could have qualified for a loan to buy that LD. And wouldn't be surprised if a restored 1966 LD would sell for more than the original MSRP. So in the year 2059, our LD will be 50 years old. Odds are we'll not see that anniversary. And so it goes. 2 Likes

Each rig nose had to be "sighted" off the ones next to it so that all appeared well-ordered and uniform for that shot! I recall that there were a few objections to the regimentation of being told to adjust the position of one's rig!

I do however like those RVs I see all over Europe, and one built with the LD construction and quality philosophy would indeed be a dream. In more ways than one. B vans generally lack the window space I crave. It must have been wonderful to be at that big GTG! I hope to see the next one!

Going fulltime changed our needs and perspective.The biggest thing we probably miss is being able to fit into many spots in government campgrounds.But many Corp of Engineers campgrounds are great for a rig like ours.Art 1 Likes
Re: 50 Years Ago! Reply #17 – August 10, 2016, 12:39:25 pm In 1989 I inherited my Dad's 1975 19 foot LD. I took 4 teenagers out many times skiing! It had a huge rear kitchen. My Dad ordered it from the factory without the toilet and black water tank. They boon-docked most of the time so he put a portable toilet in the wet bath. He could remove it to shower and also dump it in an out house when available. He would often dump the gray water (degradable soaps only) out in the boonies. Different times!I drove it for ten years until 1999 when I bought a 1992.Lisa 1 Likes
