How Do You Read Posts on the Lazy Daze Owners' Group?
I'm taking an informal survey. Assuming you, as a forum member want to read ALL the posts, regardless which forum they're in, I'm curious as to how you read them to make sure you don't miss any. Do you sign in and start with Recent Topics or New Posts or Recent Posts or New Replies or a combination thereof?

I get a separate email for each post!  If I want to know more, I go to the home page and poke around.   Works perfectly for me!!!  I cannot imagine trying to track down my place in each and every folder at the home site.  I know it will take me to my last unread post, but I tried that for a while, and then went back to reading each message via email.  So far, I probably have not made more than half a dozen sojourns to the main page to read posts for any reason, but it is nice to know that I could go back there to pick up information that I may have deleted from my INBOX because it wasn't of interest at the time.
One of the reasons I don't like to rely on reading posts that are posted ONLY under a topic I am interested in is because posts have a way of drifting from the main topic.  Sometimes the information is something I am interested in, but under a topic heading that is of little interest; or vice versa.
Since I have each message in my email system, if I want to keep track of anything, I mark the incoming email with a blue flag, which keeps me from deleting it later when I am doing a purge.  Those with the flags get kept in a Lazy Daze folder, and the others disappear with the punch of the delete key!  I can search with key words from within Mail and within the folder to find what I might be looking for - sometimes this is even fruitful! I have dreams of filing in more specific folders, but so far . . . that has not happened.  Maybe in my next life.

Chris, I read the forum on the website; this  opens up to the "Recent Posts" page, but since the listings on this page seem pretty arbitrary (for example, this topic did not have a "New" designation under "Recent Posts", which is odd as it was posted later than a couple which did have a "New" designation), I go to the "Lazy Daze Forums" tab and start from there. I quickly skim the post topics in each forum category, then return to any item of interest to read further (or respond).  This forum layout is intuitive and clear (The use of "Media" and its sub-categories of "Home" and "Unseen" were a bit fuzzy at first due to my not relating the terms to the content, and I still don't get how a photo - or anything else - can be labeled as "New" when it was posted several years ago!), so finding new material is simple and straightforward.

Chris,

We both have the posts forwarded to our email account, and read them as they come in.  Then, if we want to go back to a chain, we'll go to the site and dig from there. (or if I would like to add something to David's honey-do list, I can email it directly to him!)!!!! David and Wendy Harris

I read from the website but from time to time find posts a week or so old marked new when I have tried to readall newevery day. There seems to be some confusion between new topics and new replies where it seems as if new should be new post. Probably my lack of understanding.

I read on the web site and rely on recent posts to see every post.

I always check the recent posts on the site. From that point I read on the threads I have been following.

From that point, I start noseing around and can often find something of interest that may have slipped by.

It's interesting that photos seem to be hidden inside a thread and can be easily overlooked unless you "click" on a members response to a thread. This has prompted me to add a "heads up" on my responses or posts if I have included a "shot" of a picture just so someone who is reading can find the image without having to search the media files.

One way or the other, I always look forward to absorbing all I can from LDO.

"...is because posts have a way of drifting from the main topic."

Judie makes a relevant point about "topic drift". If you find your response drifting from the original post topic, feel free to simply start a new post in the appropriate forum.

Interesting comments so far. It appears that many of you find your own special ways to access and digest the forum messages.

"I read the forum on the website; this  opens up to the 'Recent Posts' page..."

I do the same as Joan: the website opens up to recent posts for me, and that makes it simple to see what's new. I read every new post every day. (Yes, even the ones about coffee.)

Come to think of it, "Do the same as Joan" wouldn't be a bad motto for any RVer. ;-) I can't remember her ever giving bad advice.

I read lazydazeowners.com on the website, via Safari browser, on iPad or iPhone. I subscribe to a thread for email notifications rarely.  It is part of my morning or evening read, along with the news, email, etc. on other forums I use Tapatalk, but I look at them infrequently. Because the quality and relevance of the content here is outstanding, this forum in the new software is a pleasure I look forward to each day when I can get online. The old Yahoo was a chore I went to when I needed an answer.

Thanks for your positive ratings, Paul. The new platform seems to have pleased most everyone. Interestingly, as we were going through the migration process from Yahoo, I personally only heard from one person who thought the transition was a bad move. And the rationale was because s/he was a heavy Yahoo user and preferred that source. Of course, one dissatisfied member is statistically irrelevant (not everyone voices complaints publicly), but the lack of grumbling seems to support satisfaction. There still are a few tweaks we moderators are discussing with Steve and Michelle, and we will present those in the future.
And on a positive closing note, thanks to all of you for making this forum the most helpful, positive and civil one in RV cyberspace.

Since I scan each new message, I open "New Posts", it shows every new messageI not previously viewed.

My usual way to read this and others with similar design are

1)  Go to "Forum"
2)  Look for boards with unread posts and select one
3)  Click the word "New" that's shown in a topic I'm interested in - that takes me to the first post, new to me, in a topic.
4)  go back in my browser and select "New" for the next topic I'm interested in
5)  when done with a board, use "mark all read" to zero-out the unread posts in topics I'm not interested in
6)  use Forum to visit the next board with new-to-me posts

I also have a weird habit of starting at the bottom (oldest topic with unread posts) and working my way up the list.

I don't like the "listserv" method of reading - that of getting posts by e-mail.  You don't see the conversation (and interaction) as a whole that way.  I can usually tell who reads and posts by e-mail  ;)

I use the (semi-) digest. It's not what I want and doesn't show all of the topic and I'm sure I'm missing a lot, but I don't want to get a couple of dozen or more emails. I'd prefer the yahoo digest that had all of the messages in it.

At one point it looked like it might be an option but I haven't seen anything (of course I may have missed it :) ) about any changes to add it.

I have looked at the newest posts in order list (good for frequent quick looks) but I think I like going to where there are categories and drilling down.  I had the Yahoo forum set up to go to my email because it was more difficult to navigate and post on the website with our ipad.  This format works much better.  I don't know how to have posts sent to email with this new format.  so I have not been looking enough to see all posts.

With the execption of surveys I go to the summary of new posted items.  I click on an item then scroll to the priviouus items on the subject until I either reach the start or an item I read on a earlier visit.

I am on the road now reading and posting from an older iPhone.  I find that with this new forum format I can follow topics I am intrested in much easier that when we were on the yahoo forum.

John,

If you click the word "New" next to a topic title, it should automagically take you to the oldest post which you haven't yet read in that topic.

I always use the "New Posts" button which brings up all the threads that are either brand new or have had new posts made since my last visit.

I then click on the green "New" button to the left of each thread title which takes me to the first new post since my last visit.

I also go to the "NewPosts" button, click each new green button, & then check back to the last one I remember reading, in order to read each new goodie.

My small rural phone cooperative ISP recently discontinued the service I'd had for 10+ years...& with it went my email--Grrrrrrr...Arrgghh    >:(    I'm still in the process of figuring out what I'll do next, so coming to the Library 1-2 times per week for various tasks.  Oh, my, but I've gotten addicted to the convenience of the interweb (as my sister calls it)...can't find a recipe, remember the rest of a song that's become a bit of an earworm, want to get an alternative perspective on a news item, email--all in the convenience of my jammies (& this forum had become my bedtime story...the last thing I read at night).  I'm definitely in withdrawal!    :'(

I read the forum the same way as Michelle C. with the exception of marking everything as read before leaving.  There is no need for that since I tend to read everything.  I love this new forum!

I read on the website.  I open each forum and scan the various topics and then read the ones that interest me.  I tend not to open the "new posts" page.
