Editing and deleting classifieds
How do I edit or delete my classified ad?  My MB is pending sale and I don't want to remove it, but need to update the status.  I was able to edit the ad once.

Within some time window (I can't recall what it is), the author of a post can edit or delete it themselves.  Beyond that window, only a moderator can make changes or delete.  Just PM a moderator and they can edit the post for you.

Is that something that can be changed in the software?  Particularly with the Classifieds, it's a PITA that the author can't, at sometime in the future, change the ad on their own and has to contact an Administrator.

Since you mentioned it, you jogged my memory on something.  It's actually better if someone would bump their ad with a new post mentioning the changes, rather than editing the original.  You see, if you edit a post, there's no indication to anyone else that there's new information or that the content changed, whereas if you make another post in that topic, it gets marked "New" and gets folks' attention.  In Diane's case I erred by not thinking of it at the time and suggesting she do this.  Folks can use the same method to mark an item sold - post in the topic that it is, and when a moderator sees that post they can delete the topic (to keep the classifieds up to date).

Most forums do not allow you to edit at all (remember Yahoo, and all the times folks would have to post again just to correct spelling or add their signature?  ;)  ), or only within a few minutes, so having that ability here on LDO is a unique feature.  The time limit comes from our experience on Foreforums where we had a few members who inexplicably would go back and delete useful posts they'd made.

I suffer from poor proofreading skills and find the ability to edit the most useful of all the new features.
The ElkArte software is a nicely done. It's a much easier site to moderate....and to cleanup my messes.

IMHO, I think the "bump" post is a good idea for those who are selling items/vehicles. I notice that sellers on the Escapees for sale forum use that extra "bump" post if there is a price change or they are not getting any attention on the forum.

Les, go to the home page and click on "Forums" and then click on "Classifieds". The first post, which is "pinned" to stay there at the top of the thread, will tell you how post a for sale item. Just copy the for sale template, fill it in and pasted it into a new post.
