Dump hose replacement, Rhino-Flex
My 12 year old OEM blue dump hose has hung in there with RV Goop fixes from time to time. She's about shot so I'm looking to get a new hose. I've heard good things about the Rhino-Flex. Query: If you have this setup does the hose fit in the LD hose carrier without removing the fittings? Thanks. Dave

In our 06 we have the 15' Rhinoflex. You can't put any fitting into the hole for any hose and you can't close the door if you leave the standard Rhinoflex fitting on. We bought the hose without fittings. I added a basic 4 prong fitting that connects to the dump on the rig to one end and that works. If I need it set up at an RV park I just attach the other fittings on the hose at that time.

That said, I do prefer the Rhinoflex to standard floppy hoses.

Good stuff Jim, thanks.

I used to be active on the site a long time ago but found Yahoo difficult to deal with. I'm soooooo happy the LD site is now here in easily readable and post-able form. So much knowledge here.

Thanks again and good to see you still have your 2002 30 footer Chris Horst! Chris showed me his baby all those years ago while we were on vacation in Colorado which convinced us to buy Ruby.  :D

I just retired my original blue sewer hose yesterday (preemptively after 14 yrs) and replaced it with a Blueline (looks/feels like the original). I attached a 45* angle 4 prong see-through connector and it just fits in the hose compartment on our 31'. Blueline Ultimate Sewer Kit - Prest-O-Fit 1-0203 - Sewer Hoses - Camping World

Thx, Chris.  After the recent fork discussion, I can see the benefit of a see-through connector, & if it fits in your compartment, it will work on LDy Lulubelle.  I can pick that up at CW east of KC when I'm down there & have on hand when the need arises.

My hose is a rhino flex 20' that I trimmed approximately 2ft off of to maximize fit in the  LD hose storage. I like the screw on angled clear fitting, but pruned off one of the 4 hooks to allow the door to close.

For extra hose storage peace of mind, I put two small eye screws and hooked an itty bitty bungee diagonally across just inside the storage compartment. It ensures the hose can't come out, even if the door pops open.

I find the 2 part rhino "elbow" fitting much easier than the screw on elbow I used to use.

Here's the part at Amazon: Amazon.com: Camco 39432 C-Do 2 Clear 45 Degree Hose Adapter Sewer Fitting:.... I attached it using a worm gear hose clamp. The Blueline kit contains 2 - 10" hoses plus hose connector, elbow, etc. One 10' hose fits in the hose compartment. The rest I travel with and use as needed. I can only think of a couple of times in my RVing years that I ever needed more than the 10' hose, but you need the extra one just in case.

Head's up! I just tried putting the new hose and the new 45* adaptor in the hose compartment, and it won't fit. The Camco adaptor seems to be just a bit larger than the one I've used forever (Valterra, maybe?). I'll have to try something smaller.

So with just purchasing our LD a few weeks ago we haven't fully used it yet... One of the things that we wanted to replace was the sewer hose... I pulled it out last night (after our new one arrived) and the old one fell apart on me...

The new one fits... (rhino) if I take off the fittings for the new hose it fits in the LD sewer hose holder.. but not with the fittings... So ultimately the husband wasn't happy that we would have to screw on and off the fittings every time...

Reading through your comments is there any other alternative to screwing on and off the fittings?

Thank you,

What fitting was on the old hose? If it fit in the compartment, you could use it on the new hose if it's still in reasonable condition. The gasket in the adaptor on my original hose (14 yrs old) began to fail and I would get leakage when dumping. Yuk.

I have never been able to get any hose into the LD compartment with any fitting except on the end at the door. Since we seldom camp with full hookups it hasn't really been an issue as most dump stations have an opening large enough to stick part of the hose into the opening. Which is another reason why I like the Rhino hose, it stays put.

When we stay someplace long enough that has full hookups we just attach the pieces on the other end.

Someone on the forum did enlarge the opening behind the sewer hose door and I believe was able to put the hose in with the attachment.

I've never used an adaptor/fitting on the end that goes in the sewer hole itself except once or twice when a "donut" was required. The original hose usually always fits in the hole and stays there. But I liked having a permanently attached adaptor to connect to the LD's black/gray tanks so I would not have to attach one each time I dumped tanks. That's what I'm dealing with.

Since I tossed the adaptor I was replacing, I don't know what brand I had, but it was a 45* angle one. Jim, what are you using on the end of your hose that fits with the door closed? Since the LDs sit so close to the ground, I liked having the 45* angle which allows the effluent to move a little faster.

Chris, we have the straight black 4 prong fitting which is what we have used from the beginning. I think it's a Valterra or Camco.  I do have a clear 45 degree elbow that I put on the sewer connection when we dump. Not as simple as your set up but it's what we have used.

Does LD sell their own "special" hose?

I am contemplating calling to find out, as much as I love the tough rhino hose I don't want to deal with changing the fittings just to get it to go in the compartment...

LD does have its own little parts/accessories store. A call to them would answer your question. I think the original hose was a Blueline. The Blueline (10' extended) replacement certainly seems to be nearly the same. I don't remember if the original hose came with the 4 prong fitting on the end or if it was bare.

So I called LD and they seemed confused... and not sure of what I was saying.... the gal had to transfer me to someone and then he seemed really confused.... When I asked what specific brand they used they kind of beat around the bush to tell me.... Finally I got them to tell me that it was a valtera brand... ( I worked for an RV store, I am quite familiar with the different parts companies and items they make/sell... I guess I didn't know that valtera produced sewer hoses)...

Guess we will purchase one and see if it fits!

I guess that I am missing something. I am assuming that your newer LD must have a larger opening where you store the hose. However, if it is like our 06 you can't put the hose into the opening with a fitting attached. And a valterra hose is the same diameter as the rest of them but unlike the rhino it is a floppy hose.

Could you post a photo of where the hose is stored?

I am very new to LD but not new to RV's... grew up with one my whole life and also worked for parts and service at an RV dealership for little over a year.
Our LD has a little door on the drivers side rear area that opens up and the sewer hose stores inside of that... when I pulled out the original sewer hose I did notice that it did not have any fittings attached to it. So it makes sense that it wouldn't fit. I would just have thought they would of made it a little more "convenient" so you didn't have to take that mess apart and put it back together to dump and what not. When I get home tonight and am doing some motorhome chores I will snap a picture of the storage area that I am talking about. I am researching some other possible storage solutions to prevent having to take it apart each time... my hubby isn't too keene on the idea of having to take it apart. haha

It sounds as though nothing has changed. What you are describing sounds like ours. I know that some folks have created some different storage solutions so that they could store a hose with fittings but can't seem to find those posts just now. Not using the correct search string I'm sure.

After reading all this about not being able to get a hose with fittings in the hose compartment, I'm feeling fortunate that I was able to at least get the 45* angled 4-pronged connector (on one end of the hose) in the compartment for 14 yrs. As mentioned, the seal had failed and I tossed it so I don't know what brand it was. Couldn't find anything at CW today that would fit and photos on line are too unreliable.

We use a Blueline hose which has connectors that hold together with just a friction fitting so there's no bulging ends to the hoses.  This is the only thing we've found that fits in the hose compartment.  We keep the fittings in a separate bag in one of the outer compartments.  It's not as beefy a hose as some of the others, but we haven't had a blowout yet.

Valterra offers a broad selection of "dump" products; I've used the EZ-Coupler hoses and fittings for many years and have been very satisfied with the performance and quality. The four-prong connection is a definite plus; even if one prong breaks, three can still provide a no-leak connection.

Sewer & Sanitation Archives - Valterra.com | Valterra.com

I do suggest always carrying an extra dump hose and appropriate fittings, and also checking the latch on the hose "tube" door; the latch is pretty flimsy. "Snakes" that have slithered out of hose holder through an unlatched hose compartment door are not uncommon to see along the roadsides!
