96 muffler system
Have almost made it home to find our suspicions about the muffler system was confirmed.  We are now in Springfield Ma with 2 weeks behind our inspection date in Vt . Ford no longer makes a y joint for the 96 ld. The fabricators here don't have a lift.  The places with a lift don't fabricate.  We could order a system (only about $1100 plus shipping). The question for the group is as follows: do we have an exhaust with Ca emmissions? Not sure what that is,  but I get the idea that the parts available on line in OH don't.
Does anyone know a parts place where we can get the y joint or the whole system shipped to us?
Thanks for any help.

A better muffler shop should be able to fabricate the pieces you need. There are so many variations in exhaust pipes, even within the same model, due to different wheel base lengths, engine options and chassis types, that it's just about impossible order the right pieces, if they are even available, it is a 20 year old RV.
If the local shops seem perplexed, it's time to expand the radius of shops, the county is full of customized cars and trucks, everyone of them needs an exhaust system. Someone in New England does this type of work.
Your LD is a truck, look for shops that work on the bigger rigs, they should have a lift or rack that fits your LD.

Thanks Larry I was hoping you would answer,  and very aware of how right you are.   The trouble is "exhaust pipe language" is hard to understand and talk.  We ask fabricators to build us one.  They say they can't because they can't lift the truck.
We are  still  searching.   One of our concerns is the fact that the truck was built in CA  can we assume the exhaust system has to meet California standards? In other words does getting one fabricated need take this into allowance? We are ready to replace the whole system at this point.

It s amazing to us in the Springfield Ma area how little success we have getting help.

The only difference in the exhaust between California emissions and Federal emission standard, in 1996, would be the catalytic converter.  The pipes are basically the same for each, as the converters are usually about the same size, any minor variation can be adjusted by the fabricator.

I have been stuck in New England and not been able to get our RV fixed, Sandy, so I thought I'd try to help. I went on google and searched on "custom exhaust Springfield, MA" and the top hit was this place:
Ed's Custom Muffler Shop - Springfield,MA
Ed's Custom Muffler Shop
100 Verge St, Location 5
Springfield, MA 01129
(413) 297-1424

Maybe give them a call and see if they can help or if they know someone who does. I saw on their website that they show trucks so maybe they have a good lift to get under a LD.
Good luck,
Jim
