Tire Man still in business

Hi everyone, I just got some extended valves installed by the Tire Man in Ridgecrest on my 2004 MB. The last time I had work done by Chuck was in 2004 on my 1987 Multiplan that I bought from Sara Blackwood. Chuck is still performing the same quality work he did back then. The previous owners of my current coach had the Borg valves installed and when I had new tires put on a couple of weeks ago they were unable to put on the valve extenders  because they leaked air so I was left with very short valves. I had no idea that extenders were added to the valves until this change of tires. Apparently these Borg extended valves were not long enough so they added extensions. Well now I have peace of mind with these new quality valves and they look sharp too..no extensions added to these!

Martha, While I'm glad to hear that the Tire Man is still making a living and that you are very satisfied with his work, your comments cannot be left to stand without some response.  Much of your commentary is what marketeers call FUD, i.e. spreading fear, uncertainty, and doubt about a competitors product. I've had trouble-free long Borg valve stems on my '05 MB since March of 2005.  That's with and without pressure sensor caps and with one round of tire replacement. There's not a dime's worth of difference between properly selected (for your wheels) Borg and Tire Man's long valve stems. Alex Rutchka, SE #4

 There's a lot more difference than a dime. Chucks valves are overpriced compared to the Borgs just like the Goodyear tires he tries to sell to you when the Michelins bring years of trouble free performance with proper maint. I.E. checking tire pressure. This guy is a salesman pure and simple. He didn't invent these extended valves, they were around decades ago. When I was a tow truck driver in the early 70's we had extended valves on all our dually trucks. Don't get ripped off and drink the Kool-Aid.

To each her/his own. What I get from Chuck is far more than six valve stems. In 2008 he installed his extended valve stems on our new 31' TB. They have been re-used and some of them used another time. He later sold us the all-steel Goodyear tires and I was amazed at the improved feel of driving on them. We just aren't comparing all apples folks. And we all respond differently.
 I also appreciate the convenience of spending the night on-site. And I will always opt to spend my money with local businesses. But over and above all the tangibles, I value the 2-3 hours of his undivided time and attention and the informal education he offers every time we see him. Let us not cast aspersions.

If you offer a superior service experience, you should not feel that it is necessary to talk badly about your competitors.
 Over the years, people have reported here that they have had a positive experience with Chuck the Tireman in Ridgecrest. But, people should know that the valve stems he sells and installs are not unique.
 I have had excellent service and experiences with Costco in Garden Grove CA. They did an excellent job installing Michelin tires and the Borg valves that I purchased from www.yourtiresupplyshop.com in Tujunga CA.

Ditto, Kevin. Same experience and same valve extenders at Westminster, CO Discount Tire. Preventively replaced original LD valve extenders (11 yrs old and still working). The DT installer talked directly to the Your Tires Supply Shop tech to make sure he was installing the Borgs correctly. The Tirman did not invent extenders, that came about when pneumatic tires were installed on truck duals, probably close to a hundred years ago , Heck, if you are so inclined, you can buy straight brass stems and custom bend your own. Costco did a fine job of installing extended stems on our LD, without the long, expensive drive to Ridgecrest.  Larry

Martha, thank you for sharing your positive experience. We are new LD owners and are considering extended valves.  We have done business with a tire shop 5 minutes from our home for 25 years so will probably have them put the valves on, but we'll be in the Ridgecrest area next month so we'll keep Tireman in mind, just in case.
