Howdy LDers',
I was looking at a 1987 22ft LD with the 350 Chevy engine and a T400 trans.
I'm assuming that the rear end on this is a 4.10 /
4.11, is this correct?
Have any of the owners added a GearVenders overdrive (22%) to the above type (350 with a T400) and what are your experiences? Will the unit pull in 3rd gear when the O/D is engaged? Has anyone put in a lower rear end ( 4.56 or 4.88 ) for better mountain climbing?
Also for you more newer unit owners with the automatic overdrive transmissions, do you find the overdrive is usefull?
Also I would like to propose a thread on the best "three things I did to the running gear" and the
"best three things that I did to improve livibility".
I'm sure this imput by exsisting knowlegable owners would be helpful to us newbies.

Overdrive is most useful. In cruise control, the engine shifts out of it automatically when needed. My greatest manual use is to disengage it for engine braking on hills. Hope this helps.

I just bought a 1990 with the same engine and tranny. I call LD and they told me the rear end was 4.56 although I haven't crawled under to confirm it. I too am looking into a gear-vendor. All I hear are good things about them, plus, you can take it with you when you sell your RV. My LD seems to do fine on most hills (with momentum) but I'll be towing a jeep most of the time and I think the under-overdrive will be really usefull.
