Any advice on how to carry two bikes on a 22 ft '89? We have a two inch ball and no receiver. We're going to camping world next week to add a fantastic fan and would be thrilled to be able to take our bikes on our next trip. They show some that might work but will they hold the bikes securely with no scratching? Has anyone used the ladder rack? Thanks :-)

Performance bicicycle makes a carrier that bolts to your bumper where your ball goes. I have one and use it often. or try a ladder rack. ON my 1975 I have an exposed spare tire so I use a rack made for that.
Hope this helps. Bruce

Karen try the net at prolineracks.com. They have a huge variety including some that adapt to ball mounts.

Will the ball mount carrier clear the spare tire?

you have 2 3/4 inches from the centerline of the hitch bolt to the inside edge of the vertical post. I just measured mine. you might be able to get a machine shop to make an extender plate. 1/4 inch steel with 2 holes in it. hope this helps Bruce

I have a bike rack on the front of the rig.
However, while you're at Camping World, drool over my latest toy. Last weekend I went to CW and bought a really light weight 6-speed fold-up bike. It's really cool. It's so light that I can pick it up with one hand, and I'm a wimp. Fits in the small trunk of my car. This is a real advantage for me, as I live in an apartment and don't have a safe place to keep a bike.

Another week and a half and I get to get my FF also, and the baby will get rid of the pink stuff. Yeah, Spring!!!! Sarah in balmy Seattle (64 sunny degrees today)

Sarah, where did you find a front rack? The local bike shop said they don't exist.
Does snow count as "balmy"?

They advertise such a large variety of alternatives I'd bet at least one would. Also I'm sure you have already checked this but Camping World catalogue has  a pretty wide variety as well.

Just a caution....front bike racks may interfere with radiator ventilation. I believe Ford cautions against anything mounted on the front.

I got my front rack from J.C.Whitney. $37.35.

Just to clarify my previous comment on front mounted bike racks. The newest LD owners manual on page 56 specifically cautions as Ford reminders "not place any items, such as bicycles, etc. in front of grill that would, or could, obstruct air flow".

My local bike shop found a used front mount. Any overheating from the folks who have them? We have a Chevy but it still has a radiator. We may just buy a small trailer and give up on a rack. Now, excuse me while I go outside and retreive the things that are floating away in the yard from the "storm thar wasn't". The water is 3 feet high and rising!

I bought a spare tire bike rack but found it to be too much trouble to put on and off, so I cut off the part that went around the tire and devised mounting brackets for the front. So far I haven't experienced overheating in 95 degree stop and go freeway traffic in my 82 Chevy LD with two bikes hanging on the front.

Karen

You may want to consider having a receiver type hitch put on the back of your rig. I am sure there are a number of companies that make receiver hitch bike racks. I have one that goes into the receiver and can carry 1 to 3 bikes, also I can hook up my tow car to it.
