Today I finished my two storage projects I have been working on this summer off and on. In the closet I use the rack for hanging clothes as it's intended, but I noticed some empty space behind and above the clothes hangers. So I put a shelf there to hold some lightweight stuff.
Also, I always have one of my two sofas set up as my bed. With the sofa pulled out, there is about 10 or so inches of space behind the upholstered foot area that only my cats have been able to access. In August I cut a hole in the upholstered board and made a nice shoe storage area (with inspiration from Debinvenice). I used the cut out fabric to reupholster the area so it *almost* looks factory. After using it for a month, I realized there was space for a second row of shoes. So today I added "helper shelves" with narrow pex to extend the legs to the height I wanted the shelf. Now I have double decker shoe storage :D 8)
Good job! We are always looking for storage ideas so thanks for sharing. By the way, one of our cats loves hiding in that space under the couch/bed also.
Very nice! Looks as if the factory had done it.
Much more elegant solution Kendall!
I also keep that couch out as a bed in my TK. My hack is to tie a cord to the item that is furthest in the open space, shove it in first, then continue to push other items in until full. Then just pull on the cord to retrieve items. Effective but I like your solution better.

Yea Dave, we use the cord pull method for the cab overhang storage (light items) since we don't carry the ladder.

I would have done something like that, but on a RB the opening is just behind the drivers seat. No long open space to pull stuff out of
I love that Idea! we also have had our couch stay out on the passenger side for a RV Queen mattress bed for some time now. In the winter we would store our skies and polls under the bed in that slot. But for our trip down the Baja -no skies we got three plastic containers each the right height to fit under there and filled them with stuff. We added pulls to the end of each container so we could use the hook at the end of our awning winder pole to pull them out one at a time. We put the stuff we used more in the closer container and other stuff we did not need further in. I would forget what was in there so I took a picture with my cell phone to review where and which one our stuff was in. It worked well but was a pain to drag the last container out if it was heavy. Your board on rollers is a great idea! -and our skis could still go on top in the winter.

Linda,
I Love the double decker shoe storage. I may need to rethink my shoe tub. We are working on drawer slide upgrades but haven't got the solution yet.

I used the storage under the couch for shoe storage until that space was sacrificed for a 300 AH lithium battery & 2000W full sine wave inverter. Shoes now go in the former battery compartment - battery thieves will be sooo disappointed.... ;)
