I’ve seen where some of you have opted to add an stainless steel exhaust tip to your muffler exhaust pipe. I’d like to do the same. The one question I have is in regards to the heat generated from the new tip. On my rear bath the exhaust is behind the right rear dally. Above the existing exhaust pipe there is a heat shield to protect the fiberglass body and plastic floor of the storage bin from excess heat. My muffler guy told me that he would need to remove that heat shield above the tail pipe to install the new tip to the tail pipe. Has anyone had had any ill affects from heat caused by removing that heat shield ( i.e. discoloration or melting in the area)?
Also, is there anyone who has made this improvement who would share pictures of their coach with the new tail pipe tip?

I had my muffler shop add a tip years ago and there was no issue involving removal of the heat shield. Both are there and doing well!
The tip, depending on the type, fastens to the exhaust pipe with a clamp and extends out beyond the side of the coach by a few inches. Sorry, no pictures! ;)
LD would not spend the time, labor and material installing a the shield if it wasn’t needed.

Hi Dale; after an unfortunate encounter with a traffic cone caused by following someone with a tow dolly on the freeway, I needed a new turndown tip (stainless) for my rig. Ordinary, sorry no pictures, the heat shield was retained, un altered. Did it myself. (hacksaw, grinder, hammer, file)
I did replace a friend's 2001 Midbath exhaust pipe (partially) that had an encounter with a curb. Also heat shield un altered. Did it myself. Exhaust pipe ends (https://www.lazydazeowners.com/index.php?topic=39240.msg254110#msg254110)
Stainless steel. You need to make sure which size you need. This particular tip has a partial double wall that should reduce how much heat is radiated near the fiberglass skirt. RonB
