Title: air conditioner shroud replacement
Post by: kvc on August 04, 2020, 08:56:35 am
My 2000 MB is equipped with the original duo therm air conditioner.

Wanting to do some maintenance/cleaning  on the coils to improve its efficiency.

Does anyone know how to locate the model number?

I would like to order a replacement shroud and filters for it prior to doing the maintenance.

Thank you for your time, Kimberley from Kansas

I replaced the AC shroud on my 2003 with this one five years ago:

Amazon.com: ICON Penguin Dometic Duo Therm Air Conditioner Shroud, Polar... (https://www.amazon.com/ICON-Penguin-Dometic-Conditioner-Shroud/dp/B00IABALBO/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=duo+therm+rv+air+conditioner+cover&qid=1596549161&sr=8-4)

The model number of the Penguin 600 Series AC in my 2003 is 600315.321; it's a 13500 BTU  model.  I am not sure if the AC on a 2000 and on a 2003 are the same units, so if you don't have the pamphlet in the owner's packet, I'd verify the model number with another owner of a 2000 before ordering the shroud. If the model numbers are the same, the shroud in the above link is a good choice!

Consider using spray primer/paint on your new shroud to protect it from UV rays.  Unprotected shrouds and bent covers have been known to crumble from UV exposure - you can search the forum for details.

I was washing the roof on our 2010 RB when the water hose pulled against the rear corner of the A/C Shroud.  It literally cracked in half!

If you are still looking for the A/C shroud, there are several vendors around.

etrailer.com, Camping World come to mind.  Cost  for mine was $160.00 out the door at Camp Out, Inc in Las Vegas.

I probably paid a premium of $40.00 dollars because the one I purchased was ultimately destined for another customer who said he would wait.

Remember that the general supply chain of parts have been growing thin with C-19, with many manufacturers short of workers.  As a result parts and services will be more expensive, perhaps as much as 30% or more.

Yes, you will need the model # of your unit, which I was NOT able to find on the unit topside.  If you phone Dometic direct I am told that they will be able to provide your model # after asking you a few questions.

I took a chance and purchased one that looked very much the same (with the condition that I could return it) that fit my  Dometic Penguin Duo-Therm.   It was the exact fit.

Spraying the Shroud with a good coat of paint before installing is excellent advise as given by experienced Members above.

Good luck, and happy travels,

Most Respectfully,
