Title: Anyone towing a Chevy Equinox?
Post by: Lori Y on March 10, 2017, 08:10:59 pm
Anyone towing a Chevy Equinox? Care to share your impressions?

As a person who needs AWD, an automatic transmission, and room for both an XL (500) & a SM? (200) dog crate...that's the only vehicle I can come up with to tow.

Anyone care to share their knowledge? (Except for RVs, I've driven Japanese cars since 1981...5 Subarus and now a Nissan Pathfinder. This will be a huge change for me.)

Hello Lori.
I don't tow an Equinox but was reading Consumers Report when I saw your post.
CR gives it a pretty good review overall in the mid-size SUV category.  That's always a plus to me.

Depending on the model you chose and the options, they show the curb weight being from 3,945# to 4,155#. By the time you add the weight of the necessary towing hardware, dog crates and "stuff" you will likely be adding another 300 to 500# to what you're towing. The max. recommended LD  tow limit is 4,000#.
Just something to factor into your decision.
We have a 24' model as well. They are the lightest of the units LD makes with the same engine so you do have lots of power available. We routinely tow a heavy Jeep over mountains with no problems.
Enjoy your travels
