Hubby had to fly to Ontario, Ca today for business and is going to take the LD tour this afternoon. I would have him order a new one today, if we could just get that 30ft with a "crows nest" for our son. (bed over cab with the window in front).

Well, ordering the "new one today" is doable, but to get the front windows, you're gonna have to bring a hole-saw, as they are faux . . . just black paint.
I talked to Ed about this when ordering Yonder. Asked him if they would just not paint them black. Answer, "No". Black paint absorbs lots of heat in the summer, and does little else good but properly mark the final resting place of bugs. I'd rather not have them there at all, just plain white. But, since LD chooses to make the area slightly raised, it would look "unfinished" if they were not painted. Sort of like LD forgot to cut the windows out.
all the best,

A request for front windows is likely to elicit a pretty "testy" response from Ed (or whoever is available to answer questions.).
It's understandable why you might want front windows for your son, but this modification just isn't going to happen with a Lazy Daze.
It sounds like not having front windows in the cabover is a deal- breaker for your situation; you might want to look at other manufacturers' products for the cabover front window feature.

I agree on all points! If and when I ever buy a new LD, I will paint over the phony windows.
I don't care if I end up with two odd-looking bulges--I just don't want those huge black heat absorbers on my bedroom wall! I could always get an airbrush artist to put dual murals on them.

Our plan all along has been to get murals painted on our fake windows.
We more actively looked for a mural painter

I'm wondering how well it would last though, taking the full hit of wind."

If and when you have a mural painted, have it clear coated with a clear, two-part automotive paint (the same clear coat most cars have today).
It will cost you but it will protect your artwork.

I considered having my poppies painted on the cabover faux windows, but figured that even with clear coating, the artwork might eventually be damaged from repeated scrubbings (with a "softscrub" sponge) to remove the splattered bug innards that so quickly collect on this surface. How tough is clear coating?

The majority of automobiles produced today have a clear coating over the base color. When properly applied it is very durable.
Make sure to use waxes and/or polishes that state on the label, "safe for clear coats".
Clear coats are usually not very thick and can be ground through using the older, more abrasive rubbing and polishing compounds.

Good idea, thanks Larry.
